50 tons of hand spinners seized in Liege Airport

The Belgian customs authorities intercepted some 50 tons of non-compliant hands-on toys, a total of nearly one million pieces, which had been shipped from China and Hong Kong, the Finance Ministry said on Thursday.
The consignments were blocked during customs checks. After an assessment by the FPS Economy and maintaining the ban on placing on the market, shipments will be redirected by Customs after being marked with non-conformities, specifies the Ministry of Finance.
The impugned toys did not meet the requirements for their placing on the market.
These include the obligation to include, on or beside the product, a serial or model number and the full contact address and the name of the firm or manufacturer.
A full contact address and the name of the importer’s firm must also appear on or beside the product, not to mention warnings and instructions in the language of the region where the toy is placed on the market .
The toy must be CE marked before being placed on the market and its design must comply with European standards. Finally, the manufacturer and the importer must be able to present the information and documentation necessary to prove the toy’s conformity.
