The “hand spinner” on a list of dangerous toys

Parents who want to buy a spinning top from their child, should be thinking twice about it, warns a consumer protection group that the popular toy is dangerous.
The World Against Toys Causing Harm (W.A.T.C.H.) group unveiled Wednesday its list of dangerous summer toys, and the hand towel – which is already banned in several schools – finds itself there. According to the group, the toy can be broken into pieces, and the small parts represent a choking hazard.
W.A.T.C.H. Recalled that children from Texas and Oregon had to be transported to the hospital recently after they had suffocated themselves with pieces of the top.
The group’s chairman, Joan Siff, emphasizes that the fact that a toy is popular does not mean it is safe.
The group also mentioned the fire hazards of lithium batteries used in gyroscopic boards, the risk of injury from plastic weapons inspired by superhero films, and injuries that could occur when using a non-motorized scooter.
