My Nostalgic Toy Story

My Nostalgic Toy Story

Question: What are your top one thing that you never forgot from childhood?
Answer: Toys.
In fact, toys have become the best friend for us and gives us so much fun. But those toys in my childhood have little in common with my brother’s toy. They are simple but yet interesting.
I was born in 1990s. During this time, Chinese government had enforced the one-child policy, calling for families to have one child each. Therefore, I have no brother or sister. In addition, my parents are so busy working and often came back home very later. So I always stayed at home alone. Fortunately, however, I had so many so –called friends-toys, which helped me to get rid of loneliness. It also help me grow faster and stronger for quite a while. So I will introduce my friends to your and share my childhood experience with you.
1. Paper airplanes
The paper airplane is my first toy. My parents went to work and left me alone home, and in order to please me and keep me occupied, they folded a paper airplane for me and taught me how to fly it. For a child, there is nothing better than our own parents, so do I. I required parents accompanying me rather than a paper. But I finally compromised my parents. I thought it was so fun when I played with it. Due to my liking for this paper plane, I asked my father to teach me how to make a “plane”. After that, I could make a “plane” on my own. Paper airplanes were so prevalent among students, and I found that so many students also had a paper glider in the school and thrown it during the breaking time. Many kids would compete against each other to determine how far their paper airplanes could fly. In order to make a “plane” to fly well, some will throw it as hard as possible vertically up into the air. Paper gliders have been categorized into two type: classic airplane and advanced airplane. Most of students had a classic plane, for it is easy to make a “plane”. Here are some instructions for homemade paper airplanes, which can give you a flying dream.
1.Prepare a A4 or A3 paper;
2. Fold it in half;
3. Fold the top corner of this paper into the centre;
4. Fold the angled edge into the centre;
5. Fold along the centre line;
6. Fold down the wings.
Perhaps you can make a paper dart to look back at your childhood or you can create a paper airplane to experience your father or mother’s childhood.

2. Roly-poly toy
There are currently few tumblers in the market, for perhaps this stunning toy has long been overlooked, partly because it seems to more common than any newly-released toys. This toy comes in different shapes, representing a man, a animal or anything else. The bottom of this toy is hemisphere-shaped round, with a centre of mass in this round. When such a toy is pushed over, it will sway irregularly but does not fall down. Occasionally, if a wobbly man looks like a man, he will smile at you when pushed over. My first tumbler is a hand-made toy. I find an egg, and dig a small hole at the bottom or the top of this egg in order to dispose of its egg white and yolk. Then add some sands into the empty egg, less than roughly 1/5 of the egg. Finally, you can play with it. Perhaps the roly-poly toy represents a toy and offers a piece of advice that we should overcome challenges we encounter throughout the life-course and we should never give up and continue to go forward.

3.Mouthpiece
Although the vast majority of people now have a mobile phone by which many people can communicate with others, I deem that these electronic device have stolen our fun. We everyone just bury our faces on the mobile phone. Is it such a life that we like and want? Compared with phones, I am rather fond of mouthpiece which is a toy and my “phone”. In past times, the standard of living in China was much lower than developed countries, so few have their own phones, at the same time, it is even impossible for our kids to have a phone. So I always think that those kids who are born in the 21st century feel happiness, partly because they have many toys to choose and have their phones. But how do we solve our problems although we had no phones in our childhood? It is a mouthpiece. Compared with today’s mobile phones, the mouthpiece is a low-end device, which is characterized by low performance and unpleasing surface and poor quality. But It does bring some fun to our childhood and build a communication bridge between us. After school, we often called our friends via this “phone” and talked about things we all interested in. Here are some instructions as follow:
1.Prepare materials, including paper cups, a thread and plastic tubes
2.Dig a small hole at the bottom of each cups;
3.Put the tread through the holes, and fasten threads to the tubes inside the cup.
How to use it? It is so easy. You can put the toy near your ear as hearer, your friend can put it near the mouth as speaker, then your friend say something on the side of the thread, and you can hear something on the other side of the thread. It is so amazing. I still want to make and have a mouthpiece because I want to communicate with my past by this toy.

I still want to find some childhood fun although I am an adult. So I often look for some interesting toys in the market and I am long for a toy that can realize my dream. But it fails. I believe that there is no special toy recalling the memories of my childhood until I find a toy called hand spinner. This little spinning toy has attracted many people’s attentions since it is launched in the market. I initially think that the toy is odd, with a bearing in the centre and three “legs”. I have no idea how to use it. So I conclude that the toy is able to recall my childhood memory and offer the same fun. But I am wrong. When I spin it, I feel pleasure and I want to spin it with my friends. It is easy to spin and I just put it between my thumb and the other fingers, and the toy can rotate by moving right or left. What surprises me is that there are so many videos posting to the social medias on spinner skills, which is intend to teach us how to spin it well and perfectly. I again enjoy childhood fun and I also find one more friend.
